Conference Sessions

Welcome to the 42nd Annual ABCT Convention

Taking It to the Streets:

Advancing the Dissemination of CBT

Anne Marie Albano, Ph.D., President
Sandra Pimentel, Ph.D. Program Chair

A tremendous amount of information follows, which can be daunting to first-time users. Fear not! Long-time users have recommended we not change a thing, so it does get easier. If this is your first ABCT convention, we recommend you attend the orientation session on Friday or Saturday morning.

Included in the general registration fee are an enormous number of opportunities to learn and to network. Many events schedule in a Q & A time, and many are especially useful for talking with attendees with similar interests.:

The Convention consists of General Events and Ticketed Events.

There are more than 150 general events, which include

  • Symposia (S) - Presentation of data, usually investigating efficacy of treatment protocol or particular research.

  • Panel Discussions (PD) and Clinical Round Tables (CRT) - Discussion (sometimes debate) by informed individuals on a current important topic.

  • Special Sessions (SS) - These events are designed to provide useful information regarding professional rather than scientific issues. For more than 20 years our Internship Overview and Postdoctoral Overview have been helping people find their educational path. Also offered are several "how-to" sessions on career development assembled by the ABCT Membership Issues Committee.

  • Clinical Case Conferences (CCC) - These events will highlight and illustrate the clinical conceptual process and the treatment that follows from that conceptualization. A panel of highly respected clinicians will view a recorded patient interview and give their reaction and diagnosis.

  • Clinical Grand Rounds (CGR) - These "how-to" events present a simulated clinical sessions to show the method used by some of the finest Cognitive Behaior Therapists.

  • Poster Sessions (PS) - One-on-one discussions between researchers, who display graphic representations of the results of their studies, and interested attendees.

  • Special Interest Groups (SIG) - Try to schedule in time to attend one or two of the 30+ SIG meetings: Another great way to share your knowledge with people working in your interest area.

Continuing Education events that require purchased tickets.

A selection of outstanding scientist/practitioners will provide longer, in-depth classes.

  • Clinical Intervention Training - Full-day events allowing for exceptional interaction (7 hours of CE credit).
