The key word that describes this convention is "opportunity." All of the committees involved in making this convention had as a central goal the provision of opportunities to meet the needs of various disciplines, theoretical CBT orientations, diverse experience levels, social interests, and special clinical interests.

Some presentations will offer the chance to see and hear what is new and exciting in behavioral and cognitive work from our dynamic and vibrant presenters. Other presentations will address the clinical-scientific issues of how we develop empirical support for our work. Yet other presentations and formats will offer an opportunity to see and hear the best and the brightest in the CBT community.

Read through this program guide very carefully. Read it twice. Scan the subject and author indices and note the sessions you want to attend. Choose carefully: Because of the high quality of the submissions and the breadth of material offered at ABCT Conventions there are often several sessions competing for your attention. Unless you can clone yourself quickly, make your choices now. Preregister early to avoid being closed out

For those of you attending an ABCT meeting for the first time, we offer a warm welcome. We have arranged a convention orientation both on Friday and Saturday from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. in the Europe 11 room to help you get the most from the convention experience.

Make sure that you take advantage of the multiple opportunities for social interaction and for networking. In addition to our Special Interest Groups, we will have an extensive exhibit area where you can evaluate the latest books, try the newest equipment, see what is on the horizon, and run into old friends and colleagues.

Finally, we hope that you will take home with you the energy and excirtment of an ABCT convention. Please take the opportunity to submit a poster, symposium, panel, or paper for next year's convention in the Big Apple.
